Welcome! and thanks for visiting this webpage.

I'm a researcher at CONICET (National Science Council, Argentina)  and member of a working group based

at the Division of Ornithology of the Argentinean Museum of Natural History, Buenos Aires.

Email: gscabanne AT yahoo.com

Our main research interests at the Division of Ornithology are:

1) The biogeography of the Neotropical region, 2) Bird biogeography, conservation and systematics,

3) Reproductive biology and 4) Bird song evolution

We apply conventional tools (e.g., Sanger DNA sequences, Niche models, morphometrical analyses),

as well analysis of genomic data-sets to address questions on the abovementioned topics.

I am mostly involved in project related to:

a) Biogeography of shared birds between the Andean and Atlantic forest,

b) Biogeography of Atlantic forest birds.

c) Genomic-phenotypic evolution and action of natural selection across different geographic set-ups.

d) Biogeography of Chaco/Andean birds.

e) Biogeography and conservation of grassland specialists.

I am also involved in some collaborative projects, being some examples:

a) Biogeography of Chaco and Caatinga birds (with Luciano Naka, UFPE)

b) Biogeography of open landscape birds (with Renato Caparroz and Cassia Alves, Brazil)

Current Postdoc

Alejandro Manuel Ferreiro. Foncyt fellowship. His research in related to the evolution of open area birds in

the Neotropics, and to identifying factors affecting variation in the relationship between

climate and genomic constitution.

Current PhD students

María José Rodriguez (Uruguay). CONICET fellowship. Her research topic is related

to evolution of Chacoan and Andean birds. She is also interested in evolution of birds from Pampas

wetlands.

Bárbara Delgado, FONCyT fellow. Her research topic will be related to divergence with gene flow in birds.

Started July 2021.

Silvia Martínez Gómez, CONICET fellow. Silvia is involved in a collaborative project with Luciano Naka, and

will study evolution of open area birds (for instance Chaco and Caatinga).

Undergraduate student (Interns)

Alumni

Andrea Turner

Brenda Hrvoj. Brenda is interested in bird song and she is involved in a project

to evaluate song geographic variation of a bird from the Andean region.

Cassia Rezende (Brazil), who is involved in projects related to evolution with gene flow of open area birds

and forest birds.

Post Doc Natalia 2017-2018

PhD student Natalia Trujillo Arias (Colombia).  Agencia and CONICET fellowship. Natalia finished her PhD on

March 28, 2017.
